What a beautiful tribute. I'm 73 and grew up watching The Rifleman and still watch re-runs today. So sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing.

As a small boy growing up watching "The Rifleman" I still get chills watching the opening to the show. I counted 13 shots. I decided to check out the web site, and was aw struck to learn of the passing of Johnny Crawford: Not more than 90 days ago, and he was born on March 26, same as me. RIP Johnny.

I just found out a couple of days ago that Johnny had passed. I would like to wish the family my condolences. I am a farmer who grew up watching the Rifleman in the fifties and sixties. I can only say how sad I am that he has passed. He was an inspiration to me as I was growing up as well as Iโ€™m sure he was to others. If the young men of our current generation would like a role model, I would recommend they watch episodes of The Rifleman and model themselves after Mark McCain. Thanks Mark, (Johnny), hope to meet you one day. Thanks for all the memories.

Huge fan and followed Johnny's career as it took on new directions. I am incredibly sad to read of his passing. It seems that the good character portrayed by Mark McCain was simply as continuation of Johnny's actions in real life. My condolences.

Dear Charlotte: My sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved husband. Our family has enjoyed the Rifleman for years. Just this month we discovered it was available to watch again, and are enjoying it again. I like to look up show trivia while watching and discovered the news of Johnny's passing. How sad I felt at his loss, especially the last living link to a classic show. His wonderful boyish smile still the same after all the years. I especially felt bad to learn of his suffering a horrible disease. I empathize, my sister lost her husband this year to a horrible disease, he was only 71. That Johnny was taken at 75 still seems like he was too young and we were cheated. But thanks to him for hours of good will and moral entertainment, that will live on.

My heart is heavy recalling the passing of my boyhood idol Johnny Crawford (same age, month, and yr). I heard about Johnny in of all places: a father-son barber shop yesterday (important news travels slowly for me). The producers, directors, and writers knew who they had in Mark and "pa" McCain especially in the 50's-60's where the tag of "father-son estrangement" was so prevalent. The interaction between father and son was so authentic. Realism can only describe the McCains in both happiness and teaching which was so evident in what was the "Golden-Age" of television my generation and Johnny's ushered in. I couldn't sleep last night distracted with the loss of Johnny so I got up and read. I read a lot. Currently I'm with Roger Rosenblatt ("The Story I Am") and so timely he writes about his mother and Alzheimers. Roger writes: "The thing about Alzheimers is that if it lasts long enough, it takes away everything, not only by erasing the person you once knew but by erasing the you you knew, too,....." The essence of a very tragic disease so eloquently written. The thing is as long as I breathe Johnny's memory will remain. Thank you Charlotte... Read more

Thank you Charlotte for relating Johnny's last breathing moments. As a retired RN I only wish I could have been there to share with two exceptional human beings.

Thank you also Charlotte, Bobby, the Connors family, and all who contributed to the livelihood of Johnny Crawford. RIP my boyfriend. Well deserved.... Collapse

The Gen. Sheridan episode has gotta be one of the best - Lawrence Dobkin & Royal Dano steal the show as ex-Civil War Union Gen. Phil Sheridan, & Johnny Reb, a one-armed Rebel veteran respectively - โ€œalright Johnny, watta ya hanging fire now forโ€ as the general coolly lights his cigar - itโ€™s also 1 of the Rifleman series best endings - w/Sheridan intoning โ€œIโ€™m carrying out the last & greatest order of my wartime Cmdr in Chief - Bind Up The Nationโ€™s Woundsโ€ Thank you Johnny C, & Chuck, for all those great shows

I was in love with his hit song Cindy's Birthday! Johnny Crawford will never be forgotten by anyone that watches The Rifleman even today! I just know Johnny is in Heaven! He was one of the good guys!

When I was young, my Mom know not to have dinner ready until after 6:00, because The Rifleman was on until then. Of course, I had a crush on Johnny, but I also loved the show and the messages it portrayed. (My Dad was frequently mistaken for Chuck Connors as well.) At 65, I am now so enjoying reruns of The Rifleman on cable TV, and loving it all over again. Iโ€™m so very sorry that Johnny had Alzheimerโ€™s - but he was certainly fortunate to have such a wonderful wonderful wife and friends who truly cared about him.

Johnny and I attended Elementary School together back when when we were 9 or 10. Cheramoya Street School in West Hollywood. We sat next to each other. I remember the day his mom or agent brought him to class. He had been picked to be a Mouseketeer. Would watch him on that show and of course the Rifleman after school. Pretty cool.

O,h my Go-sh,procrastination has come again. I'd been wanting to tell Johnny and everyone else about a possible health assistance method I heard about 10 yrs ago or more. Allopathic medicine has refrained from telling most of us about Chelation and the use of various substances that are called Smart Drugs ! Some of these are purported to help with Alz and Parkinson's types of movement afflictions. Johnny/Mark McCain was not only one of the great actors and Lucas Boy Too,but I believe The Rifleman can have hidden or subliminal educational value. In fact the episode that is about the power of the pen, a mischievous newspaper man who is up to no good...just like in current times...The Rifleman should be shown in prime time! .A shock and sadness..A great human, Johnny Crawford now gone...This is Just Not Right...It's not Fair...My Mom and Dad are gone now too...while ....
